keep your heads down

My friend Eve Troeh wrote a remembrance of Helen Hill. When I listen, I can’t even hear Eve’s words, really, just the pain in her voice.

Mayor Nagin responded to the “uptick” in between bites of king cake Saturday. (Mardi Gras season began, and couldn’t seem more irrelevant.) He told reporters at the press conference:”We have a tremendous amount of challenges,” Nagin said. “If people don’t think that I’m working, I would love for them to follow me around for a day.”

Seven murders, not counting the woman found rolled up in a rug (apparently killed in 2006, which presumably would bump the year’s total to 162, 16 in December, though she hasn’t been called a homicide yet, and it’s possible Orleans Parish will try to duck that additional death, stat-wise). Finger pointing. A possible curfew.

I know people who may write to the mayor, to see if they could shadow him for the day. It’ll be interesting to see if he answers.
